Wisconsin University Bans Dormitory Bible Studies - Faces Federal Law Suit

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire instituted issued a cease-and-desist letter to resident assistants who were leading Bible studies. According to Deborah Newman, the university's associate director of housing and resident, the reasoning for the ban on Bible studies is because "a fair number of students in each of our halls who do not practice Christianity."

The Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE), responded, indicating the Bible "constituted unconstitutional viewpoint discrimination against students who wish to express religious viewpoints rather than secular ones."
