New York City Stopping Religious Services

Christ Tabernacle occupied a church that was a converted movie theater from the 1920's. When the congregation grew beyond the building capacity, Christ Tabernacle began holding services in the Bushwick High School auditorium in north Brooklyn, New York. The New York City Board of Education policy allows outside organization to utilize their facilities - with the exception of religious groups.

Several churchs have taken the NYC Board of Ed to court, claiming religious discrimination. The Bronx Household of Faith v. Board of Education of the City of New York case is presently before Federal District Court Judge Loretta A. Preska. Judge Preska's decision will apply to the entire school system and all religious organizations.
