Miriam Cattanach submitted her Valedictorian speech to Spencer, Wisconsin High School officials and was told references to God and Jesus must be removed. Cattanach sought legal assistance in the matter. Her legal counsel sent a letter to the school officials and the speech was accepted as written.
Mathew D. Staver, president of the firm Liberty Counsel, stated "Students and invited speakers do not shed their constitutional rights when they step up to the graduation podium."
