NJ School Bans "Awesome God" from Talent Show

Olivia Turton submitted the song she selected to sing at the Frenchtown New Jersey Elementary School talent show. School officials reviewed the submission and banned the song as inappropriate at a school event. Olivia's mom objected at the following school board meeting but the same reason was repeated. U.S. District Judge Stanley R. Chesler reviewed the lawsuit filed against the school, along with an emergency request to compel the school, but determined a decision could not be made with such short notice. According to Judge Chesler, "I'm hopeful that next year she'll be singing."

According to Demetrios K. Stratis, the attorney for Olivia Turton, the show included the opening scene from Shakespeare's MacBeth - "They've got a scene about boiling animals and witchcraft, but they won't allow a song about God."
