Church Hosting Graduation Ceremony Sued to Have Crosses Removed

The Calvary Chapel of Melbourne Florida will be hosting graduation ceremonies for several Brevard County schools. Two parents and a high-school senior have filed a federal lawsuit to either have the church conceal a large cross and other religious symbols or have the ceremonies cancelled. The plaintiffs report that items such as a dove, hymnals and the cross are offensive. They are represented by attorneys from Americans United for Separation of Church and State.

Hiding the cross "would be kind of like covering up who we are," stated one church official.

Suit looks to force church to cover cross during school graduation

A judge ruled that the graduation ceremonies can be held at the church, which does not have to cover the cross or other symbols.
