Walgreen Fires Pharmacists for Refusing to Dispense "Morning-After" Pill for Religious Reasons

Rod Blagojevich, governor of Illinois, issued a state ruling that pharmacies that handle contraceptives must fill prescriptions for the "morning-after" pill. Four Walgreen pharmacists have refused to full these prescriptions on moral and religious grounds. Walgreen put the four on unpaid leave.

The American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ) has sued Walgreens for violating the Illinois Health Care Right of Conscience Act, which states it is illegal for employers "to discriminate against any person in any manner ... because of such person's conscientious refusal ... to participate in any way in any form of health care services contrary to his or her conscience."
