The Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, the court which ruled that reciting "Under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance is a violation of church and state, ruled that the teaching of Islam in the public schools is acceptable. The Court did not consider classroom activities, such as reciting Muslim prayers to "Allah" or fasting for Ramadan to be "overt religious exercises."
"What happened in this classroom was clearly an endorsement of religion and indoctrination of children in the Islamic religion, which would never have stood if it were a class on Christianity or Judaism," noted Edward White of the Thomas More Law Center. White represented Christians parents who sued the school for their blatant church and state double-standards. The Court sides with the schools.
