Church Building Burns Down - County Forces Tax Payments on Property

The Full Gospel Powerhouse Church of God in Christ of Wichita Falls, Texas, was burned down by arson in August 1996. Shortly afterwards, the Wichita County Appraisal District required that the church begin paying taxes on the land, despite the existing tax-exempt status, which was also granted to other churches in the surrounding area.

Full Gospel church has retained
Liberty Legal Institute. According to Hiram Sasser, director of litigation, “Full Gospel Powerhouse Church is suffering unequal treatment. It is shameful that the appraisal district is trying to tax this church out of existence.”
