Bill Signing at Christian Academy Gymnasium Brings "Church-State" Threats

Texas governor Rick Perry is scheduled to sign two bills at the Calvary Christian Academy gymnasium. The first bill will require parental permission before minors can receive an abortion. The second would amend the state Constitution to ban same-sex marriage and civil unions, pending approval from the voters.

Barry Lynn, executive director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, has threatened an investigation of the church's tax-exempt status. Calvary's business administrator noted the tax-exempt state will not be affected.

Kathy Walt, spokesperson for Calvary Cathedral International, said. "There are a number of critics who would object to this bill-signing whether it were in a private school, a public school or a Wal-Mart parking lot, because they are opposed to pro-life and pro-family legislative issues."
