Hamid Pourmand converted to Christianity in 1980. He served in the Iranian military, where he informed his superiors of his conversion. Iranian law only allows Muslims to serve. In September 2004 Pourmand was arrested, charged with "apostasy and proselytising" and faced the death penalty. On May 28th 2005 judge Bandar-I Bushehr, under international pressure, acquitted Pourmand of the charges. The judge stated "I don't know who you are, but the rest-of-the-world does." Other Christians have not been so fortunate.
Pourmand is one of over 200 million people who face imprisonment, torture and death for their faith in Jesus Christ.

V E R S E O F T H E D A Y
“For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love. For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (2 Peter 1:5-8)
