Dance Teacher Fired for Using
Religious Music

A dance teacher in the San Diego California school district was fired for using religious music in her class. The instructor has used a wide variety of music in her class, including the J.S. Bach piece Dona Nobis Pachem and a Swahili piece called O Si Funi Mungu. Neither song is sung in English, but a complaint was filed because the songs make reference to praising God.

The Pacific Justice Institute will be representing the teacher in her case against the school district. Even though the songs make not specific reference to Jesus, "it would be inconceivable to have an outright ban on the utterance of the name Jesus in the public schools when such a reference is necessary in history, literature and the arts," stated the Chief Counsel for the Pacific Justice Institute, Kevin Snider.
