Gary Montgomery, a member of the Tharptown Baptist Church in Franklin County Alabama, felt a calling to minister to kids who were "run-off" by others because they enjoyed skateboarding - kids who probably had never set foot in a church. Gary turned the Tharptown Baptist Church parking lot into a skateboard park, with dozens of ramps and rails. Gary, his assistance Chris Martin and Pastor Martin were not sure how many people would show-up - maybe 20 to 30 max. The first morning over 300 people were ready to skate and willing to learn about the Bible as well.
