Christians Arrested in Malaysia for
Handing-Out Pamphlets

Two American Christians have been arrested and face a 2- to 5-year jail sentence for handing out pamphlets. According to the U.S. State Department, the Malaysia "constitution provides for freedom of religion; however, it recognizes Islam as the country's official religion and the practice of Islamic beliefs other than Sunni Islam is significantly restricted." In another instance, the distribution of the Bible in the Malay language was declared illegal. Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi then issued a statement, saying the Bibles needed to be labeled "Not for Muslims."
