The law would recognize that our national motto does "symbolize the historic role of religion in our society" and "the display and teaching of the national motto to public school children has a valid secular purpose."
The bill recognizes several legal cases that support the National Motto, such as "the legitimate secular purposes of solemnizing public occasions, expressing confidence in the future, and encouraging the recognition of what is worthy of appreciation in society'' Lynch v. Donnelly, 465 U.S. at 693 (O'Connor, J., concurring));
