Children of the Plano Independent School District brought gifts to their classmates during the 2004 "winter party" for distribution. School officials blocked the distributed of Christian-themed items, including candy canes, pencils and napkins. A U.S. District Judge ordered the school district to allow the distributed and school district officials modified their policies to permit distributed with certain restrictions.
The families sued the school district for "unconstitutional and illegal" religious discrimination. The Plano Independent School District offered a settlement for the case but would not acknowledge any liability or wrongdoing. The parents have rejected the settlement.
