Federal Government Agency Singles Out and Rejects "Religious" Bulletin Board Flyer

Garry Listers at the federal government's Defense Supply Center in Columbus. Listers submitted a request to post a flyer on the employee bulletin board. His flyer pointed out donations to a federal charitable contribution program supports issues some may object to, such as abortion. His request was denied and told the policy prohibits “items of religious preference.”

The Alliance Defense Fund filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against the government agency. ADF Senior Legal Counsel Kevin Theriot explained "Our client has been prohibited from posting his flyer on a bulletin board open to all employees simply because the flyer expresses a point of view based on religious beliefs. This is a classic case of unlawful viewpoint discrimination.”
