The University of California Berkely professor, Charles Townes, was awarded the Templeton Prize for progress in spiritual knowledge.
Townes has concluded that life on Earth and, for that matter, the laws of physics, are not an accident. In a 1996 interview Townes said "The fact that the universe had a beginning is a very striking thing. How do you explain that unique event" without God?
