Constitutionality of Florida School Voucher Program Undecided for 6 Years

Florida is the only state operating a statewide school voucher program. Students who attend failing public schools can receive a school voucher, or "opportunity scholarship," to attend a private school. Presently over 11,000 students utilize this program. One of the issues before the Florida Supreme Court is whether parents can use their school voucher to send their children to Christian schools. This issue may go before the United States Supreme Court. Supports of school vouchers argue that excluding Christian schools would amount to religious discrimination.
