California Supreme Court Justice Janice Rogers Brown spoke to a group of Roman Catholic legal professionals on the "war" between people of faith and secular humanists. Bishop William E. Lori, head of the Bridgeport diocese, commented, "She caused all of us to reflect ... on the role of religion in shaping those virtues and values, which are crucial to our democratic way of life."
